BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUEBeth Israel was built in 1918 on Grafton Street. The city once had four synagogues, now with Beth Israel's closing there is only one; Temple Beth El. Members must decide where to send Beth Israel's Torah scrolls and the sanctuary's tall, elaborately carved wooden Ark, in which the scrolls are kept. Beth Israel opened during World War I, when thousands of immigrants flocked to Quincy to work at the Fore River shipyard.

I'm so glad you posted this . . . I knew it had closed and didn't get there to take a picture to include in my "houses of Worship" series. Did you know that there are over 40 houses of worship in Quincy?
No, I didn't know that. This posting everyday is a tall order, it only makes me more impressed by your blog. I knew it would be difficult but already I have missed more than a few days! Are grabbing facts and then running with them one of the ways you keep it going? I am always taken by the comments on your blog. Some of mine are original thoughts but much is plagiarized to give the picture some interesting reading. It is hard enough to get a picture a day up for me - words too - I can't manage!
